Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 12, 2026
This policy explains how the Cinevi development team ("Cinevi," "we," "us") handles information when you use our iOS app and website. Cinevi is a personal film and television journal. You can keep records on your device without creating a Cinevi account; external accounts and synchronization are optional.
1. Information you save in the app
The app stores the information you enter or import, including titles and film identifiers, watchlist and viewing status, viewing dates, personal ratings, notes, tags, and collections. It also stores preferences such as language, app icon, and synchronization settings, together with cached film information and images.
These records are stored on your device by default. Selecting a file or using a clipboard import lets the app read and process the content you choose. Cinevi does not continuously monitor your clipboard or upload your backup files to a Cinevi account service.
2. Optional iCloud synchronization
If you enable iCloud synchronization, supported records and collections are stored in the private iCloud database associated with your Apple Account and synchronized across your devices. Apple processes this information under its own terms and Privacy Policy.
Turning off synchronization stops the app from using that feature; it does not automatically erase information already stored in iCloud. Copies in device or iCloud backups may also remain until you manage those backups.
3. Optional Trakt connection
When you connect Trakt, the app receives authorization tokens and account information such as your username and avatar. The app stores the authorization credential in the device Keychain so it can access the features you authorize. Cinevi does not receive your Trakt password.
If you enable record synchronization, the app exchanges film or television identifiers, watchlist and watched status, viewing dates, and ratings with Trakt. Your notes, tags, and Cinevi collections are not included in this exchange.
Signing out removes the local authorization credential and disables record synchronization. It does not delete your Trakt account or records already held by Trakt. You can manage those records and revoke access through Trakt. Its processing is covered by the Trakt Privacy Policy.
4. Film information and external websites
Searching, browsing, or matching an imported title sends relevant search text, film identifiers, language preferences, and image requests to film information services. Cinevi uses TMDB and public Douban information, directly or through its film information gateway. The gateway handles these requests; it does not receive your private viewing journal, personal ratings, or notes.
Network requests expose connection information such as your IP address to the receiving service. The gateway uses connection information for request limits and temporarily caches public film responses. Hosting and network providers may process technical connection information to deliver and protect their services.
For Douban web imports, sign-in takes place within the Douban website in a temporary browser session. Cinevi does not store your Douban password or cookies in its records or send them to its gateway. Records you choose to import are saved in the app. External websites, including TMDB and Douban, have their own privacy policies.
5. Permissions and sharing
- Microphone and speech recognition: used only when you start voice search and grant permission. Recognition uses Apple's speech services and runs on the device when supported; otherwise Apple may process audio for recognition. Cinevi does not retain a recording of your voice. Recognized search text is handled like a typed search.
- Photos: permission is requested when needed to save a poster or sharing image to your photo library. This feature does not upload your photo library to Cinevi.
- Files and sharing: the app reads files you select for import and creates files or images when you export or share. The destination you choose receives the shared content under its own rules.
You can manage permissions in iOS Settings. Declining an optional permission affects the related feature without requiring you to give up local journaling.
6. Purchases, website visits, and support
Apple handles in-app payments. Cinevi reads verified purchase information, including the product, membership status, and subscription expiration or revocation status, to provide purchased features. Cinevi does not collect payment card numbers.
Our website contains informational pages without a Cinevi sign-in form. Its hosting provider processes connection information needed to serve and secure the pages. If you email us, your email address, message, and any attachments are processed to respond and resolve your request. Please avoid sending unnecessary sensitive information.
7. How information is used and shared
Information is used to provide the features you request, match film information, verify membership, maintain service reliability, respond to support requests, and meet applicable legal obligations. Where a legal basis is required, it depends on the activity: providing a requested service, permission or consent where required, reasonable service security interests subject to your rights, or a legal obligation.
Cinevi does not integrate advertising SDKs, use the advertising identifier for ad targeting, sell your personal information, or share your viewing journal for targeted advertising.
Information is shared with the providers involved in features you choose, such as Apple, Trakt, film information services, hosting providers, and email providers. Information we hold may also be disclosed when required by law or necessary to protect legal rights. Any disclosure remains subject to applicable privacy requirements.
8. Retention and deletion
You control the journal stored on your device and can edit or delete entries and export a backup. Local records remain until you delete them or remove their app data. Offloading the app can preserve its data; uninstalling is not a reliable way to remove cloud records, exported files, or backups.
Deleting a record while synchronization is disabled does not necessarily delete a previously synchronized copy. Manage remote data through the relevant iCloud or Trakt controls. Exported backups and images you shared must be deleted separately from their storage locations.
Support information we receive is retained only for the time needed to handle the request, resolve related issues, or satisfy applicable obligations. Public information caches are temporary and are not a backup of your journal.
9. Your privacy choices and rights
You can decline optional permissions, keep synchronization disabled, disconnect Trakt, manage your own records, and export your data. We do not have direct access to a journal kept only on your device or to your private iCloud account; we can explain how to use the relevant controls.
Depending on your location and applicable law, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or obtain a copy of personal information we hold, restrict or object to certain processing, withdraw consent, or complain to a privacy regulator. Contact us to make a request. We may need reasonable information to verify the request and will explain any applicable limits.
10. Security and international services
Cinevi uses platform protections such as the device Keychain for authorization credentials and Apple's private iCloud database for optional synchronization. No device, network, or storage system can be guaranteed completely secure. Protect your device, external accounts, and exported backups.
External services and website or email hosting may process information in countries other than your own. Their locations and protections depend on the provider and your account settings. Applicable international transfer requirements remain relevant; using a feature does not waive your statutory privacy rights. Contact us with questions about processing under our control.
11. Children
Cinevi is not specifically directed at children. If local law requires a parent's or guardian's permission, obtain that permission before using optional online services or sending us personal information. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information that should be removed, please contact us so we can review and address it.
12. Changes and contact
We may update this policy when our features, data practices, or legal requirements change. The date above identifies the current version. Where required, we will provide additional notice or request consent before introducing a new use of information.
